Prodan denied the accusations, and his lawyer claimed the case had been fabricated. After the Constitutional Court of Ukraine decision of 26.02.2019 declaring Article 368-2 of the Criminal Code unconstitutional, the case was closed (media reports of March 2019; NABU then stated that all proceedings under this article were to be closed). On 16.05.2019 the court lifted the seizure of his property due to the closure of the case. The ground for closure is decriminalisation, which is not exonerating: guilt has been neither established nor refuted by a court.
