NABU case on the embezzlement of funds of the “Wall” project on the border with Russia (losses of UAH 16.688 million)

According to NABU, during the engineering and technical fortification of the Ukrainian-Russian border (the "Wall" project), the acceptance certificates overstated the volume of work performed and included work that had not been done, while the funds were cashed out through fictitious firms; losses to the state according to forensic construction examinations amounted to UAH 16.688 million. On 9.08.2017 NABU and SAPO served notices of suspicion, including on the head of the capital construction department of the State Border Guard Service (Article 191(5), Article 27(3), Article 210(2) of the Criminal Code). NABU does not give names; journalists of the Bihus.Info programme Nashi Hroshi named Oleksandr Atamaniuk, head of the construction department of the State Border Guard Service, among those detained and cited a suspicion amount of USD 580 thousand — the record uses NABU's amount. On 12.06.2019 the indictment against eight persons was sent to court. There is no verdict.
