According to the Office of the Prosecutor General, in 2023 the deputy director for research of one of the institutions of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine organised the procurement of scientific equipment at an artificially inflated price: he rejected the most economically advantageous offer from the official distributor and ordered subordinates to conclude a contract with a pre-selected private company. The company purchased the equipment at the market price and sold it to the institution UAH 5 million more expensively; the import and installation were actually carried out by the distributor's specialists. On 4 November 2025 the indictment was sent to court (Article 191(5) of the Criminal Code), and prosecutors filed a civil claim for compensation of over UAH 5 million in damages. The official announcement does not name him; the full name and institution (Institute for Scintillation Materials of the NAS of Ukraine, Kharkiv) are based on Ukrainska Pravda's sources, and the position matches data on the NAS of Ukraine website. As of 3 October 2026, the outcome of the trial has not been verified; there is no verdict.
