According to NABU and SAPO, a Deputy Minister of Energy, in collusion with the head of a state coal enterprise from the east and two other persons, asked an adviser to the head of another coal enterprise (western region) for USD 500 thousand for transferring equipment for coal mining from the mines of one SE to another for storage with the possibility of use. The money was to be handed over in five instalments of USD 100 thousand; in August 2024 the participants were exposed during the handover of the third tranche. The investigation was completed on 20.03.2025, and on 14.11.2025 the case was sent to court (Article 368(4) of the Criminal Code). Guilty verdicts have been delivered against two accomplices. Official announcements do not give the surname; identification is based on the position and media data. No information about a verdict regarding him was found as of October 2026.
