Undue advantage for a decision of the Grand Chamber of the Supreme Court in the interests of the owner of the “Finance and Credit” group
Alleged
US$2,700,000
Established by court
US$1,248,700
According to NABU, in March–April 2023 a businessman (owner of the «Finansy i Kredyt» group) passed USD 2.7 million through a lawyer (1.8 million to the head and judges of the Supreme Court, the rest to intermediaries) for a decision concerning shares of the Poltava Mining and Processing Plant; on 19.04.2023 the Grand Chamber ruled in the businessman's favour. On 15.05.2023 the then Chief Justice of the Supreme Court was caught receiving the second tranche (USD 450 thousand), and on 16.05.2023 he was served a notice of suspicion (Article 368(4) of the Criminal Code). On 08.06.2026 the HACC approved a plea agreement: 5 years' imprisonment, a 3-year ban on holding positions in judicial and law enforcement bodies, confiscation of an apartment, a house and over USD 200 thousand in savings, and special confiscation of USD 1,248,700 as the object of the undue advantage; the convicted person also undertook to transfer USD 1,104,600 to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The amount in the «established» field is the special confiscation amount under the verdict, not the entire amount in the case (USD 2.7 million is the total according to investigators). In May 2026 NABU and SAPO served notices of suspicion on three more sitting Supreme Court judges and a retired judge.
