According to the NACP (18.08.2023), in August 2022, during a search as part of a NABU investigation, detectives seized almost UAH 600,000, USD 230,000 and EUR 650 in a rented apartment which, according to the NACP's conclusion, was used by the Secretary of the Zaporizhzhia City Council Anatolii Kurtiev and his assistant. Kurtiev did not declare any monetary assets in his corrected declaration for 2020, and his income for 2021–2022, according to the NACP, would not have allowed him to accumulate such a sum; the assistant claimed that the funds belonged to him and his parents, but the NACP concluded that they could not have obtained them lawfully. The NACP assessed the unjustified assets at UAH 9 million 31 thousand and sent a reasoned conclusion on signs of illicit enrichment (Article 368-5 of the Criminal Code) to NABU. In response to the NACP's request, Kurtiev stated that he knew nothing about the seized funds or the apartment. This is a NACP conclusion, not a notice of suspicion: as of 03.10.2026, no notice of suspicion to Kurtiev has been found in official NABU/SAPO sources, so the status "journalistic investigation" is provisional (no official proceedings against him as a suspect have been established). Guilt has not been established.
