Charges of receiving USD 180,000 for assisting in the lease of the “Brusnytsia” sanatorium

According to NABU and SAPO, in July 2019 the head of the Chernivtsi Regional Council asked an entrepreneur for USD 400 thousand for assistance in the long-term lease of a municipal health resort complex (the Brusnytsia sanatorium), and in August–October 2019 received part of it — USD 180 thousand. In February 2020 he was served a notice of suspicion (Article 368(4) of the Criminal Code); on 28 February 2020 the Appeals Chamber of the HACC suspended him from office. On 3 September 2021 the indictment was sent to the HACC. On 10 February 2025 the HACC approved an agreement with the entrepreneur, who was found guilty of offering an undue advantage to the head of the regional council (Article 369(4) of the Criminal Code); that verdict entered into force, and the Supreme Court upheld it on 20 January 2026. The case against Muntian himself was being heard by the court as of January 2026; the outcome as of 3 October 2026 has not been verified. Muntian denies the charges.
