Appearance in the declaration for 2019 of cash and property rights worth over UAH 3.5 million whose origin journalists could not explain by official income

According to journalists of Schemes (Radio Liberty), who analysed the declarations, in 2018 the joint savings of the Sobolevskyi couple amounted to about UAH 230 thousand, while Yurii Sobolevskyi’s declaration for 2019 showed USD 50 thousand, EUR 40 thousand and almost UAH 1 million in cash; in the same year he acquired property rights to an apartment in Kyiv for over UAH 600 thousand. According to the journalists’ calculations, in total the family increased its wealth by over UAH 3.5 million in a year without explaining the origin of the funds. Sobolevskyi told journalists that he “has worked all his life” and that lawyers “do not live on salary alone”; he provided no documentary confirmation of the origin of the funds. No official proceedings have been registered; this is a journalistic investigation.
