According to NABU and SAPO, in October 2019 the head of a state forestry enterprise in Kharkiv Oblast offered a NABU detective an undue advantage for closing criminal proceedings concerning the alienation of timber; on 30 October 2019 he was detained while handing over USD 100 thousand, and on 31 October he was served a notice of suspicion (Article 369(3) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). On 14 July 2020 the case was sent to the HACC (case No. 991/4996/20). On 17 February 2022 the HACC delivered a guilty verdict (5.5 years' imprisonment), but it has not entered into force: according to the “HACC Verdicts” project, the appeal proceedings have been suspended because the defendant has been put on the international wanted list. Until the verdict enters into force, the person is presumed innocent.
